Provider Description
I am a very experienced clinical psychologist providing teletherapy visits and consultations in my private practice. I specialize in three types of concerns — psychedelic integration, trauma therapy, and transpersonal psychotherapy. My overall approach emphasizes mindfulness and other practices to develop our capacities for presence, love, joy, inner peace and wellbeing. I am a Certified Psychedelic-assisted Therapy Provider, awarded after completing a year-long course through the Integrative Psychiatry Institute. I have also completed all necessary training to become an Oregon psilocybin services facilitator, but thus far have not pursued obtaining a license. Prior to becoming a clinical psychologist, I immersed myself in practicing and teaching meditation for many years, including 12 years as a swami (monastic spiritual guide) during which I led meditation retreats worldwide. Together with my wife Kimberly Carson, MPH, C-IAYT, E-RYT, I have developed and clinically tested innovative yoga and meditation-based clinical treatments, including the first mindfulness program for couples, the first loving-kindness meditation program for medical patients, and the Mindful Yoga program; and New Harbinger recently published our Mindful Yoga book, Relax into Yoga for Chronic Pain. Currently, along with my private practice, I am an associate professor of anesthesiology, and psychiatry, at OHSU, where I treat patients referred for chronic health conditions such persistent pain, cancer, TBI, multiple sclerosis, etc. I am licensed in Oregon, Washington, and California and through PSYPACT authorized to provide telepsychology in most states.
